Leaders have a story
Have you ever noticed “leader” as a job title? “What do you do?” “I am leader of Operations.” “I am the leader of this company.” No. Leadership is not a job title. Leadership is a role. A powerful role. A role model.
We recognise our leaders, in our organisation, on neighbourhood committees, at sports clubs, in politics, in our lives. Leadership is a way of thinking, a way of acting, and, most importantly, a way of communicating, according to Simon Sinek. Leaders convey credibility. They notice and consider the people around them. They listen to what is happening and embrace issues and sentiments. A leader does not deliver a sales pitch, as you sometimes sense from salespeople. Leaders have the power to bring to life the distant future or a new technology.
Communicative leaders have a powerful combination of personal and communicative competencies. These leaders inspire us by imparting their vision as a story. What is your story?
